Ocean Financial Centre Keppel Press Release (October 2007)
8-October-2007
Ocean Financial Centre to provide 850,000 sq ft Grade A office space
The 43-storey office development will be state-of-the-art in green and environmentally-friendly features
The new name and design of the development were unveiled by Mr Lim Chee Onn, Executive Chairman of Keppel Corporation Ltd and Chairman of Keppel Land in a special ceremony held at the Reflections at Keppel Bay Show Gallery in the presence of about 200 guests from the business community.
To be completed in 2011, the 43-storey OFC will be state-of-the-art, not only in terms of premium finishes and fittings but also in innovative green and environmentally-friendly features such as the largest solar panel system and the first hybrid chilled water system in Singapore.
OFC is designed by world-renowned architectural firm, Pelli Clarke Pelli, whose portfolio of landmark commercial developments in major financial cities includes the World Financial Centre in Beijing, Two International Finance Centre in Hong Kong, the Mori Tower at Atago Green Hills in Tokyo and Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Kevin Wong, Managing Director of Keppel Land, said, “Ocean Financial Centre, with its commanding location in Raffles Place and the New Downtown, will continue to be the preferred business address of major financial institutions and multi-national corporations.
“In the Raffles Place area, it presents one of the largest floor plates – ranging from 19,000 sq ft to 23,000 sq ft which provides greater flexibility to these tenants for their operational needs.
“We are encouraged by the positive interest we have received from prospective tenants and will continue to build on the long and meaningful relationships with our previous tenants.”
On the design for OFC, Mr Cesar Pelli, Senior Principal of Pelli Clarke Pelli, said, “The design is iconic and enduring, with a soaring form that recalls the maritime heritage of the site. We are applying technology in a poetic manner, to create a memorable landmark in the skyline of Singapore.
“The design is also environmentally sustainable. The development will include a landscaped public plaza covered by a glass roof canopy and surrounded by extensive green walls, leafy roof terraces and a sky garden forming a crowning gesture. The development will be a beautiful and memorable addition to the skyline of Singapore; it will also be a wonderful addition to the public space of the city.”
OFC will be among the first commercial buildings whose design and planning have adopted the lighting and art incentives initiative by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in the business and financial district.
It will be the fourth building to rise at the same site following redevelopment. The first Ocean Building was built in 1864. The adjacent Ocean Towers will remain operational while OFC is being redeveloped.
